Healthy Snack Foods
Because obesity is a major issue plaguing many of our families, Central City has a strict “No Junk Food” policy. We are always in need of healthy snack alternatives to serve our kids after a long day at school.
Television with DVD Player and DVD Movies
Sometimes our program curriculum is better taught through film and/or documentary, and sometimes the kids just want to watch a Disney cartoon after their homework is done.
Sleeping Bags
Each year Central City students attend winter and summer camps. None of them own a sleeping bag.
Toys
S.A.Y. Yes! Dollars are a key incentive for kids in our program. Each child earns dollars by doing their homework or cleaning up after class. They can save up to purchase toys and school supplies from our S.A.Y. Yes! Store. We always need help stocking it.
New Computers and/or Lap tops
Many of our current computers are in poor condition. This is an important need for our teens in particular.
Art and Craft Supplies
Every Friday is art day at Central City. The children participate in some form of creative expression. We are always in need of supplies for our classes.
Children's Shoes
Every November we have our Shoes That Fit Event where we give every child in the Skid Row Community a NEW pair of shoes. So we are in desperate need of children sized shoes and taking donated shoes all year in order to prepare for the event.
Sponsorships
One of the best ways to support the ongoing work of Central City is to provide an opportunity for our kids to experience something wonderful. We want them to see what's possible outside of their own community. These excursions offer a chance to get away from it all and have fun.
Past sponsorships have included a night at a hotel or fancy dinner for graduating high school seniors, a tour of the Juicy Couture factory, a visit to Disneyland or a Dodger game, a field trip to a museum or a different city.
