Family Programming
We make it a priority to build relationships with the parents and other family members of the children and youth we serve. These families are our friends and neighbors.
We host a parent lunch each month at our facility or a local restaurant, and dedicate the time to getting to know each other better. We serve hot meals to the children every evening, and parents are invited to join us anytime. We welcome the whole family at holiday celebrations, summer activities and other events.
Because domestic violence is the number-one reason why women and children are homeless, we’ve launched a book study for family members dealing with abuse. They come together to share their thoughts on the books we’re reading and support one another during especially difficult times.
Struggling with the daily realities of homelessness can be a serious impediment to parents’ efforts in building all-important relationships with their children’s school. We help them connect and participate more fully in their child’s educational experience by providing transportation to and from open houses and parent-teacher conferences. For parents without consistent phone access, we serve as a back-up contact and connect parents and schools when needed.
