Youth Development
"I didn’t realize it but you guys really are my best friends" ~ Teen student and five-year member of the Central City family
We encourage students in grades 6–12 to envision a better future for themselves through our youth development program.
When students arrive each day, time is spent first on homework. Volunteers work with those who are struggling with their assignments. Our computer lab is available for school projects. An indoor basketball court offers a place for teenagers to relax and develop friendships with other youth and mentors. Our kitchen and entertainment area offer great places to relax and hang out with friends and staff.
We want all our youth to think of themselves as college-bound. By exposing them to the opportunities available to them through college or trade school, we help them see higher education as a realistic option. Campus visits throughout California enable them to see and feel what college life is like. And our onsite "college corner" features books and posters about the college experience.
Through our career mentorship program, we help teens gain valuable work experience by matching them with professionals in their fields of interest. They learn basic work skills and etiquette, preparing them for a career that's within reach if they’re willing to work for it.
